I had to teach at co-op and with that plus my 11 year old with broken arm/casting appointment and also having a virus on top of that.... ugh.. its been a crazy few days!! A cold front came through and its cold out today... I really reallly need to reset my mental game plan for this winter. Going to sunny California and then back here to cold Texas kinda put a damper on my wanting to run outside. 12 Days of Christmas Challenge: 3 French Hens

On the third day of Christmas, my true love gave to me... 3 French Hens 2 Turtle Doves And a Partridge in a Pear Tree. In our verse today the 3 French Hens refers to Faith, Hope and Charity.  Spiritual We have one scripture for today.... 1 Corinthians 13: 1-8 This is from The Message The Way of Love   1 If I speak with human eloquence and angelic ecstasy but don't love, I'm nothing but the creaking of a rusty gate. 2 If I speak God's Word with power, revealing all his mysteries and making everything plain as day, and if I have faith that says to a mountain, "Jump," and it jumps, but I don't love, I'm nothing. 3-7 If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don't love, I've gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I'm bankrupt without love.    Love never gives up.    Love cares more for others than for self.    Love doesn't want what it doesn'...

12 Days of Christmas Challenge: Two Turtle Doves

Image
On the second day of Christmas, my true love gave to me... 2 Turtle Doves And a Partridge in a Pear Tree.   The image of the turtle dove, are a grouping of birds which pigeons and doves belong too. But for part of today's challenge I couldnt resist using the turtle as an example :) Spiritual In our song today the "2 Turtle Doves" represent the Old and New Testament. So today we have scripture from both.   Isaiah 53   1 Who has believed our message    and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed? 2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot,    and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him,    nothing in his appearance that we should desire him. 3 He was despised and rejected by mankind,    a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces    he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.   ...

12 Days of Christmas Challenge: Partridge in a Pear Tree

Image
On the first day of Christmas, my true love gave to me... A Partridge in a Pear Tree. Today we will begin our 12 Day challenge with the first verse of the song. Spiritual For our Spiritual connection we will begin with "my true love". To begin this section read the passages below and think about how wonderful the love of the Heavenly Father is for you today! 1 John 3   1 See what great love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Romans 5 Peace and Hope   1 Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we [ a ] have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, 2 through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we [ b ] boast in the hope of the glory of God. 3 Not only so, but we [ c ] also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; 4 perseverance, charact...

Rupdate: feel the burn (lung burn that is)

Image
Thats short for RUN UPDATE :) Just back from a 2.24 miler.....OMGOOODNESSS I have lost soooo much endurance in only 2 weeks. I havent felt lungs burnin like that in YEARS... I mean Y E A R S . wowzer. The choice to not run while on vacation was a good one mentally and while I think it will be a good one physically... today sure didnt feel like it. What taking a break does to a runner is to really push ya back a bit doesnt it? wether its by choice or by injury... that "starting over" feeling is something that puts a fire in my hat. Gets my brain a going... takes me up a notch to be more determined and more fired up to get back what I lost plus some. I gave nike+ gps for iphone app for a try today (hubby gave me iphone as early Christmas gift) ... It worked GREAT! I loved no sensor to mess with... it works with GPS and I can run anywhere and it will map it out on my phone afterwards i can post it to fb or twitter (not on twitter) and also  join in on the nike+ website. I ...

Home and other stuff

Image
Ah.. so very nice to be home. I learned a few things while traveling. I love road trips, I missed my life :) It was strange to be in places where we didnt know anyone. It was GREAT to see my kids be together so much and having so much fun! :) It was frustrating to no be able to eat what I "wanted". Gluten free transition is more emotional than I thought it would be and again I am finding emotional and psychological addictions I am needing to break away from. This gluten free thing, as frustrating as it is for me is something I am determined to do. I have lived most my life with stomach aches. Traveling in the past was a dreadful experience because of my stomach aches.  But to go to a Dairy Queen when traveling and having to buy tacos instead of a burger?? That's just not right LOL.  But to get in the car after eating and not having to rush to find a bathroom 45 mins to 2 hours later is NICE :) So, here I am trying to live a mostly sugar free and gluten free lifestyl...

I need a run vacation update

Image
wow.. this is the longest i have gone without a workout since I had issues with my back almost 2 years ago! Vacation has been good but wozer i miss my running. we have done a LOT of walking ... about 5 hours of walking yesterday in vegas... and the day before lots of walking at the beach in La Jolla (mission beach)... but walking isnt the same when you are a runner. Its been a good break mentally and physically i guess... the desire to get back to my non-vacation life :) we go to the grand canyon tomorrow then a 12 hour drive to New Mexico... and home this weekend :) Oh man.. eating has been mostly good. I did give in to a realllly good hamburger at this joint when we were in San Diego. "it will be ok" Just have the burger... the buns were so gooooood... bakery fresh... awesome burger............ but... it was the wrong decision. Stomach ache galore. HATED it. So frustrating. good news is... since then and only then no more tummy aches.... this transition to glute...

Bread.

Image
on the way "home" from the grocery store with fruit and some gluten free bread products in my pack :) Oh how I have missed bread. You see I am someone who use to eat a whole loaf of garlic bread by myself on my "free day" when I did body for life. Yummy buttery bread. I have missed you. Since doing the gluten free thing I have avoided buying bread. Mainly because all I could find was 7 dollars a loaf! and that was a mini loaf :( . It just seemed too pricey. I would just not eat it. Its been almost 3 weeks since my last peice of ''real" bread. I have had moments (brief) of missing it. Lately, on our trip I have been missing it a lot. mostly cause we are doing sandwiches for lunch every day. Everyone else has bread and I have lettuce wraps.  In reality I cannot see living my whole life without bread. I have gluten free bread mix at home... but I didnt make it before we left on vacation. so today. We went for a walk I needed to get some fruit...

A whole new world

Image
I keep saying it and I am sorry if it is getting annoying. but my life is so drastically different without gluten (and low sugar)!  Its a whole new world!!! My post below about no tummy ache thanksgiving was just the beginning. What is interesting is the longer I go gluten free... the better I feel. I mentioned to my hubby  while traveling that I can never ever remember ****E   V    E    R*****   a trip that didnt involve a stomach ache. It usually went like this. Get up eat breakfast drive for a few hours.. stop for lunch (burger fries coke or other)... get back in car and drive. about an hour later.....WHERE IS THE BATHROOM! .. nothing worse than being on a road trip and desperately needing the toilet. I BLOWS my mind that I thought this was NORMAL. Now... I eat and I feel good. No cramps, no gas, no stupid stomach ache. No "oh no am i getting the flu" thoughts. .... Its crazy really. just crazy. To be on a road trip and to feel th...

Turkey Day UPDATE :)

Image
I just have to write..  Just have to tell you... Today was the first Thanksgiving I can remember in allll my 42 years that I didn't have a tummy ache. I am NOT exaggerating either!  As long as I can remember. I was soooo happy and excited for turkey day. Cherry Pie, Rolls, and more Rolls, dressing, layered salad, turkey (just a little), corn casserole, rolls, cakes, cokes... i was in heaven! Then... every year... every single Thanksgiving.. 1 to 2 hours later.... sometimes sooner.... horrible stomach ache. I always thought it was just from over eating. Because of course I would over eat and then go back for more and more.....  but now i know... it was the sugar overload! .. it was the gluten! I cannot tell you how different it feels. To eat and not have stomach ache. (even during the week)... I thought eating meant stomach aches. I thought pains and  noises were NORMAL after a meal. I always thought after a Thanksgiving meal that stomach aches were just ...

thirty six degrees here this morning. I was still determined to get out and run. I have run my own turkey trot every thanksgiving since starting this blog. today I ran 5 miles and it was my first cold weather run of the winter season :)  My shoulder still hurts from where I fell... Hypoglycemia Sucks

So this is how it went Co-op is today... I teach one day a week at a homeschool coop you know.... well  today we were running late.... i grabbed my eggs and 2 corn tortillias and hot tea and headed out. Today was swim day... I grabbed a little something 2 hours after eating breakfast (a few almonds) and finished off my tea... After swimming for an hour and gettin gout of the pool I could tell my blood pressure and blood sugar were going down. I started to get shaking and feel like crap.... I was crashing....urgh I grabbed a dr pepper from the machine and took a few sips... felt better but still not good. I ate a late lunch and drank 1/2 a DP... still feeling out of it. finally after about 2 hours I started feeling better. The bad news was no I had a headache (from all the stupid low and hi) I  was sooooo low and soooo high today  it all sucked. tonight I felt better at track practice and wanted to run on the mill tonight but after getting home... started...

Nice easy super Su run and pants on da ground.

Image
Su and I had a nice easy run tonight.... just 2.5 miles but was great. I am still having issues with fueling and today just couldn't seem to get my eats right... I bought gluten free bread mix yesterday and hope to make a loaf tomorrow.... Its oatmeal tonight for supper with nuts and honey and cinn..... Arms and back are sore from 100 pushups last n ig ht!!! woowhoo.... but not as sore as I wanted them to be... so I will be increasing to 150 pushups .. will do those on Thursday :) I MUST buy new pants... ran in my old nike pants (see in this photo) and they were just falling down as i ran tonight! I can't believe my medium running SPANDEX pants are falling down!  This is from last fall (i think) this is from 2night dont know if you can see how loose fitting they are in the legs here..... This is a horrible photo from tonight... makes my butt and legs look like an old lady!!! ha baggie butt! can someone say "pants on da ground!" here is a sid...

2010 Fashion show of progress :)

Image
Hello! :) I have been meaning to post for a few days but have been busy : )  I went shopping with my hubby a few weeks ago and got some winter clothes. This summer my hubby made me get rid of all my winter clothes becasue they were way too big :) So I had nothing but sweatshirts and long johns .... hehe... Here's a few photos of some of the outfits I got.. I love my new boots (i got two pair)... I love the fact I can wear any shoe without arch supports or aching feet!!!! woowhooo to being 60plus lbs lighter to make your feet happy!!!! above is a black sweater dress... and my other new boots :) Here is my hubby looking HOT in his "I love Ruth" tshirt :) ... .. he says its too tight.. i say it PERFECT :) below is sweater dress #2 ... with big collar and buttons :).. and here is a better shot of my other new boots... with three inch heals... not as high as I really like but they are fun!... and my tall daughter.. now towering over me even with boots on! :) yest...

left tired and returned..........

Image
FEELING GREAT! WOW.  As I was running tonight i wondered how long it will take to get through my stinkin head that i am a runner.... I mean... of course I believe the Penguin's philosophy  ‎"If you run, you are a runner. It doesn't matter how fast or how far. It doesn't matter if today is your first day or if you've been running for twenty years. There is no test to pass, no license to earn, no membership card to get. You just run." ---John Bingham   But you know those moments when you feel like crap and you just arent in the groove of running and its a chore to get out the door.... those days I dont feel like I am a runner.  today... nope not a runner. Well, not until I walked out the door and started .....RUNNING. I find it strange that when i feel tired and all i want to do is curl up in bed and watch a flick on netflix .... that when I wished I had the energy to go run but really dont want to... but when I DO IT ANYWAY I am ...

now THATS better!!!!

I always loved running... it was something you could do by yourself, and under your own power. You could go in any direction, fast or slow as you wanted, fighting the wind if you felt like it, seeking out new sights just on the strength of your feet and the courage of your lungs. Jesse Owens GREAT run tonight. 4.5 miler. Dispite the wind. I hate the wind... durn wind... i would rather run in 28 degree weather than 70 degree and 18-20 mph wind. The wind here when it gets going doesnt stop.. we are windy all week ... bummer. It's crazy the difference in todays run and my last 4 miler. one reason it was better is because i am not sore from lifting and pushups :) the other reason is because I ate lots of carbs before I went. I think a big issue I am having with no energy on runs has mostly to do with fuel. The gluten thing has thrown me off... I know its a process and will take me a while to figure out what and how to fuel myself... but I think last week I simply wasnt getting...

40 years of neglect (update)

Image
I sat down at the kitchen table with my 2nd bowl of cherrios (plain) with milk and bannanas and lots of sugar. It was a school morning, so I was dressed in my ready to go to school clothes. I am not sure how it happened but I ended up dumping the entire full bowl of cereal all over me. I was covered head to toe in my favorite meal. I was so upset! .... not because I had made a huge mess of myself. Not because my mother was mad, or my siblings laughted at me (they didnt).... I was upset because I wasted a perfectly wonderful bowl of cereal. I cleaned up, got another bowl and finished the rest of my breakfast (usually 4 to 5 bowls of cherrios) and headed off to school. Little did I know.... but as early as 2nd grade, I was an addict and I was only 8 years into my 40 years of neglectful eating. The highs and lows of my day made school miserable for me. I was great until about 10am..then all i could focus on was the lunch hour. I hate school lunches. I hated the way the caffeteria s...

dont u just hate it when.......

Image
Dont u hate it when:: you go out for a great run, the first run of the "winter" ....the first run in your running tights from last year... only to find that 1. the tights are too big and bunch up and 2. the spandex shorts underneath the tights were not the ones to wear today... or ever again. That leads to what I wanted to be a 6 mile run turning into a 2.5 mile run .. and went home frustrated for situps.. yikes! is there any other sport where clothes are soooooo important??? hum. I am looking into getting new running pants for the winter... bah.....humbug.....winter. (no... no no no.. possitive attitudes now)... Winter: the time when running in the snow is amazing and you get to wear cute little hats..... oh.. yippeeee.. winter. Dont you just hate it when...... you start getting lean because of your new gluten free diet only to discover your baby belly skin gets looser and looser .....why isnt there non-surgical tummy tucks????  (please note photo is not m...

Half Marathon Day!!!!!!!

Image
Yesterday was amazing.  IT WAS HALF MARATHON DAY HERE! I was able to see one of the runners before the organized race across town but had to leave to head back to campus for our Cool Runnings half. It's what I call a "solitude half". No time chips, no race numbers, no official start and end time. You come, you run or walk, you go the distance and you conquer 13.1 miles. I am sad I didnt get to see the other part of the gang that raced across town and wished I could have been in two places at once. I hope to get photos from all the half marathoners and create a video this week but for how here are a few shots from yesterday. when I grow up I want to be a trainer and help folks do marathons :) What a blessed day. What a joy! Loved every minute of it!  Now that my long run meets ups on Saturdays will be over I plan on focusing the next 2 months on training for a full marathon. My goal is to do 26.2 before Dec 31st. With my long term goal of doing atleast one full ma...
