January's Half Marathon Done,...

Just wanted to post that I finished 13.1 today :) ... more details tomorrow! So happy it was definitely better than last months :) yeah!

The struggle to run

Man, I am way way out of the grove. I hate it. I miss my in the groove getting up at 5 am for early morning runs. MUST> figure it out. I had a very short 1.5 mile run today... it wasnt enough.... might go again tonight but will have to wait n see.... if not I will do pushups :) Eats are much much better I am feeling MUST better... After last saturday's donut trip (which I ate a pig n a blanket and 1 donut)... I was in the gluten funk for 3 days after. NO energy, horrible tummy... MAN I HATE FEELING LIKE THAT.... I hate the struggle/mental aspect of nutrition. MUST LOOK AT FOODS THAT ARE BAD FOR ME JUST LIKE I DO POISON.... MUST. so... very low mileage for the first half of this month... have to kick it into gear if I want to do my 13.1 at the end of the month.

the good kinda sore.

Its so nice to be the good kinda sore.... you know the feeling that you worked out hard, are sore from it but you can still move.. that is what I am today :) It's nice. Yesterday I completed week 4 day 1 of the pushup challenge.... I managed 5 sets of mens pushups... When I tested I did 20 pushups.. this put me in the first column for my plan.... when i started last week the first column was a bit too easy so I decided to try the second column. So now I really in the 2.5 column HA... cause the middle is too much and the first is too little.... Here is what I did last night: first column said to do: 12, 14, 11, 10, 16 The second column said to do: 18 22 16 16 25 I ended up doing: 18, 15, 15, 15, 10 .. the set of ten was pretty sad... and was because I was hungry and ran out of fuel :) ha.  But the good news is I was tired when i was done. :) So I am not sure what I will do tomorrow but will prob stick with  my own 2.5 imaginary plan HA. I have to do another test at the ...

Happy 6th birthday blog! Thanks for the transformation!

On January 9th 2006 I started this blog. I began with three posts I wrote throughout the first day. The second post contained before pictures. Those photos were in black and white and didn't show my face. I couldn't bring myself to show my "true" self and certainly didn't have the courage to show my face! When I first started writing here I told just a few friends and my husband. I never planned to share this with the "world" but God had a different plan.  Here I am six years later, a marathoner, a certified personal trainer, running coach, gluten free, mostly sugar free, milk free and feeling GREAT.  I failed so many times over the past 6 years. If I have learned anything its that life will always get in the way and that the only control we have over it when it does is to pick up the pieces and start over, and over, and over and over. So today I celebrate by re-posting the words that started it all..... And if you are struggling to stay motivated and fi...

The Secret to Success

Image
I had someone ask me once "Ruthie, how do you eat so healthy all the time? Don't you miss the foods you love?" My answer was a surprise to them... My answer is simple... the secret is to CHANGE WHAT YOU LOVE. Food and Fitness have this interesting relationship you know. Most people workout so they can eat whatever they want OR the eat whatever they want and feel guilty so they workout. There is this balancing act most people try to do when they are "going to finally loose weight".  But the sad truth is... its doesnt work for the majority of people and as a result we have patterns of loosing weight and gaining it back again. Why is it so hard to be successful? Want to know my little secret to success? CHANG WHAT YOU LOVE. CHANGE THE FOOD YOU LOVE, CHANGE THE ACTIVITIES YOU LOVE. It's really not that hard to figure out the secret but its really hard to be open to change. We don't like change do we? We like to know what tomorrow is going to be ...

update :)

This week is going great. I was a bit sore from being on my feet so long on Saturday so I have been resting and just doing slight jogs with no mileage. I have, however been doing the Pushup Challenge again :) I started Monday in week 3 day one as my test recomended. Monday I did a total of 89 pushups during the workout and about the same yesterday for day 2. I am hoping that in 3 weeks I will be able to do 100 straight with no breaks. We will see if it works this time and I dont get side  tracked :) LOL After pushups yesterday I worked out at the fitness center doing back, abs, bis, and legs... I only did sets of 15, 12 and 10 with no burnouts since its been a while since I lifted. The plan is to lift weights and do pushups on MWF and run TThSat. I will also be doing some biking and other equipments on my lifting days to warm up. Exciting news... I will be a personal trainer at the rec center this next semester! Its so exciting and strange at the same time that its seems I have...

2011 in review, Looking forward

Image
If I learned anything from 2011 it was to expect the unexpected. 2011 started off with a something I never thought I would have to deal with, wondering if I had breast cancer. Jan 2011 began with posts about "wishes" and  detoxing but because I didnt know what I was dealing with I didnt share the true reasons behind my deep thoughts and drastic diet.  Praise God 3 weeks on a raw vegan diet, my cyst had vanished and I finally shared what had been going on . You would think that this healing would be all the evidence I needed to make the switch to a healthier eating plan but it wasn't the case for me. We all know that eating is far more complicated that we all would like to admit. So many things happened this past year to convince me to eat healthier. The Healing of my cyst, the amazing energy I had especially during my long runs.... with one shorter run turning into a half marathon just because I felt so great and how my stomach issues disappeared (no more waking up ...
