today and my thoughts on Why its So Hard

Had a meetup with some of the half marathon group. Had 2 show up at the meet up. Which was great. I had a great time visiting and walking and running with them gals! I am loving the fact that many of the women who have stuck with it have been able to just go on their own. You know how when you first start out you need the encouragement and support. Esp our first 5 miler.. everyone was so worried about how are it would be. LOVE that today to them 5 miles is no big deal! Pretty awesome!

I did 5 miles, it felt good too cause I was a tad sore in my thighs ... now I am loosey goosey and ready to go mow the yard and clean out some of my kitchen cabinets! LOL

In more exciting news.. look who i got to hug in person yesterday???
she is my friend who lives in China and runs on the treadmill at the gym! Most days the air is too bad for her to run outside :) We also ran a virtual 5k together a few years ago (here is HER post about it :) it was sooooooo good to see her!



Here are my reasons it is so hard:

1. We are too hard on ourselves.
2. Most of us grow up in a society where its all or nothing kinda attitude.
3. We are programed from an early age to have a liking for certain tastes (mostly sweets)
4. We are a nation of stressed out women. Living a life that is going full speed and we can barely keep up. Eventually something has got to give. And we put ourselves last.
5. We are uneducated as to how truely important physical activity and food effects us.
6. We give up too easily, we want to set unrealistic goals, we want it to happen over night. We must learn.. its a PROCESS.
7. We dont give ourselves enough credit for the baby steps we make.
8. Millions of messages through out our lives telling us we are not pretty enough, fit enough, thin enough... so why even try.
9. To be healthy in the US is to be counter culture. To go against the grain. People dont like being different.
10. We think life is about getting old and feeling old. THATs just the way life is. BUT IT DOESNT HAVE TO BE! Just because you are over 40 doesnt mean you only have 10 or 15 years before you are on 10 different medications, and have all these things wrong with you. YOU CAN FEEL YOUNG, LOOK YOUNGER THAN YOU ARE. Getting old, does NOT mean feeling old.
11. We go to food when we are happy, sad, frustrated, stressed out. Many of us are addicts and dont know it. Many of us have emotions connected to food instead of food being our fuel, its our everything.


ok.. enough of this.. :) could be here all day you know.. the list could go to 100... but i have a yard to mow :)

the tendency is toward disease and un-health-ful-ness. It takes effort to move away from that. It takes NO effort to stick with the tendency and be unhealthy.
